Oculoplastics
Oculoplastics is a field of ophthalmology dealing with eyelids, tear ducts and eye sockets both in medical and cosmetic aspects.
Eyelids
Regarding eyelids – these are changes in eyelid position such as drooping eyelids (ptosis) or excess skin on the eyelids (dermatochalasis), rolling of the eyelid outwards (ectropion) or rolling of the eyelid inwards (entropion), with or without the lashes touching the eyeball (trichiasis). There are also other issues having to do with eyelids, such as facial nerve paralysis (facialis), floppy eyelid syndrome, blinking and blepharospasm, inflammatory and infectious eyelids diseases and of course eyelid tumors and lesions, benign or malignant. In oculoplastics we locate the problem in the eyelid position disruption and treat the disorder.
And of course the eyelids also have a significant cosmetic aspect, including eyelid lift surgeries as well as Botox and fillers injections.
Tear ducts
Regarding tear ducts - it is about locating the cause of excessive lacrimation – blockage or narrowing in one of the components of the tear duct and treatment depending on the location of the problem.
Eye Sockets
These are problems, related to eye bulging, eye socket tumors, eye socket infections and inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory disease having to do with thyroid gland problem- TED as well as eye socket fractures and their repair.
